NASCAR UPDATE

Jamie McMurray wins the Daytona 500

Welcome to Nascar. A rapidly growing sport in America. I'm extremely excited about writing this article for this years Nascar Sprint Cup Series. Mostly I will cover a Pre-Race Info like Qualifying, Track: Location, Size, Distance, and who won the year before., and what to expect. and then a Post-Race. Also since most of you readers know Danica Patrick is racing for the Nationwide Series, I will keep an eye on her progress and updates throughout the season.

Since I'm starting this a week late, here is a quick recap about the start of the season.

  • Feb. 6 Budweiser Shootout: Kevin Harvick

  • Feb. 11 Gatorade Duel 1: Jimmie Johnson

  • Feb. 11 Gatorade Duel 2: Kasey Kahne

  • Feb. 13 Daytona Nationwide winner: Tony Stewart; Notable Danica Patrick 35th *wreck

  • Feb. 14 Daytona Sprint winner: Jamie McMurray

Daytona Recap. Distance : 2.5 miles; Location: Daytona Beach, Fl; Last Year winner: Matt Kenseth

Jamie McMurray Won the 52nd running of the Daytona 500, who only lead final two laps, .119 seconds in front of Dale Earnhardt Jr. With two laps to go Jr. made an unbelievable surge to the front as he pasted Carl Edwards. Than ran by David Reutimann. Blew past Martin Truex Jr.. And then, gutsy he slipped himself in between Greg Biffle and Clint Bowyer. All he had left was Jamie McMurray to pass to bring home the victory. Maybe one more lap Jr could have pulled off the win. The race lasted about 6 hours due to the fact that 2 and half hours was the cause of a 9 in by 15 in by 2 inch deep pothole, in the track.

New rules and changes: spoilers instead of wings, permitting unlimited bump drafting at restrictor-plate tracks, consistent start times, aggressive markdowns and marketing of race tickets. Some sources say that the spoiler change could be a four-year process. Kasey Kahne is now driving for the manufacturer that once sued him. Richard Petty Motorsports merged with Yates Racing to run Fords season. I think this will benefit Kahne this year giving him a more powerful motor which is what he needs.

Week 2 and 3 could prove to answer Earnhardt question about how is season going to turn out. Earnhardt and whoever else who participates or follows NASCAR knows Week 2 of is much more significant than Week 1 when it comes to figuring out just how things will work out by Week 36, taking away the restrictor plates for a few months and setting tones of whats to come.
There are 6 Chevy in the top 10 only two toyotas one dodge and Kahne as the lone ford. My top three winners would be: Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne.

Other news: Elliott Sadler and his wife announces the birth of there son Wyatt on Mon 15th. Carl Edwards and his wife are expecting one very soon. In the Nationwide series Danica Patrick is still trying to get into the swing of things. She still has a lot to learn about this type of style of sport, but with her integrity and determination shell be very competitive and make a run for there money. Nationwide: SAT. Feb. 20th race is at 5(ET) on ESPN 2, Danica Patrick starting 39th.
