2010 Signing Day Recap: Alabama Crimson Tide

Hey there guys,
This is going to be an ongoing series of posts over the next 12 days recapping the Signing classes of all the SEC schools. I will give my grades to each individual player than I, Batteman, Logan Young's Staircase, and Jerrell Powe's Scooter, will each give our thoughts on the class i.e. how good we think it is, how we think it helps the team, stars, sleepers, etc. We'll be going in alphabetical order. So today we will be starting with.....

2010 ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE SIGNING DAY RECAP

DeMarcus Milliner

Name/Pos/Grade*
DeMarcus Milliner/CB/91.3
Eval: May be the best pure athlete signed in SEC this year. He has the size (6'0 185) and the speed (4.4) to be a great athlete no matter where he plays. I see him playing CB on the next level but that is not where he played the least in High School so he may need some coaching before you see how great he can be. Still he has excellent coverage skills, staying low in his backpedal, and he bursts really well out of his cuts. His biggest questions are about how physical does he want to be? In his video he did not run inside well on offense, did not get off presses very well as a WR, and did not seem to really be physical when tackling. Still his pure athleticism will make him an excellent cover corner once coached up.

Philip Sims/QB/90.2
Eval: Phillip Sims is a solid QB that played in a Spread Passing Offense that required him to make all kinds of throws in high school. His mechanics are very advanced for a HS QB and he has an above average arm and can make all of the necessary throws in college. Biggest challenge may be learning to take a snap from under center, and it seems as if he takes a drive or two to get into rhythm during games, he will have to get used to a run first system. Has above average feet but will not be a Dual Threat QB. Can sometimes be inconsistent with his accuracy but for the most part is very solid in that area. Could very well take over as Alabama starting QB after McElroy's senior season.

John Fulton/CB/89.2

C.J. Mosely/OLB/88.5

Jarrick Williams/S/88.1

DeAndrew White/WR/88.0

Alfy Hill/DE/87.7

Adrian Hubbard/DE/87.6

Brian Vogler/TE/86.2

Corey Grant/RB/86.1

Arie Kouandjio/OT/85.5

Keiwan Malone/WR/85.5

Nick Perry/S/84.2

Blake Sims/Ath/83.0

Chad Lindsay/OG/82.5

Harrison Jones/TE/82.2

Cade Foster/K/81.6

Austin Shephard/OG/81.2

Dequan Menzie/CB/80.0 *juco

Ronald Carswell/WR/79.3

Jalston Fowler/FB/79.1

Wilson Love/DT/77.0

Deion Belue/CB/76.8

Jay Williams/P/76.2

Brandon Ivory/DT/70.8

Brandon Lewis/DT/70.0 *juco

Logan Young's Staircase: Milliner looks scary! He's got the athletic ability and he's got Saban coaching him. Good think Jevan Snead won't be our quarterback in a year or two.

This is the kind of class championships are built on. It's depth building and these players all fit the philosophy Bama runs. All of the corners seem built to play man. A big ole NT. Saban isn't just star gazing, he's filling his needs. I think this is the second best class in the SEC.

Sidenote: The arms race between Florida and Alabama is getting really really interesting. This is going to be a fun series to watch if Saban doesn't skip town and Urban doesn't die.

Jerrell Powe's Scooter: I hate Bama. Their recruiting class is really good. They signed alot of DB's, because they are replacing nine defensive starters. Only one five star this year though. CB Demarcus Milliner. Lick my taint, Bama fans.

Batteman: After signing two top five classes in the previous years I get the feeling that this years class might be more of a "filler" class with players that will provide depth over the next 4 to 5 years for the Tide. While the grades are high for these guys they were high for the class in the previous two years as well. The two names that stand out are CB DeMarcus Milliner and QB Phillip Sims, but a couple more that you could see make an impact are CB John Fulton, WR DeAndrew White, and TEs Brian Vogler and Harrison Jones. Once again the Tide sign another great class.

Grade Rating
A - Should make an impact IMMEDIATELY, great player expected to eventually be a top pro prospect. The kind of guy you tell your kids/grandkids about.
B - Can make an impact within the first year or two that he steps on campus. Great Pro Potential, and an eventual Star in the SEC.
C - Could develop in to a solid starter with some pro potential.
D - Developmental talent but lacks the physical tools to really be a star in the SEC. Most likely a special teams contributor or role player. Probably stolen from the Sun Belt.
F - Sleeper; Project Player; not enough information to really get an idea about the player. Most likely not going to make an impact until late in college career.

Alright guys as always you know we would love to hear your thoughts. Tomorrow's class: Arkansas Razorbacks

  1. F*ck You, Jerrelle POWe's scooter. Maybe you should talk trash when you learn to read, beat bama, or win a National Championship!

    RTR!

  2. Considering that he's one of the most well versed people I know (funny that a Bama fan tells someone to learn how to read), that Ole Miss beat Bama last night in basketball (and twice in football since 2000, that's alot for us haha), and that we've won 3 National Championships, Oh and that he said, and I quote, "This recruiting class is really good" I'm not quite sure what your point is but thank you for reading nonetheless
