2010 Signing Day Recap: Georgia Bulldogs

Hey there guys,
Today we will be taking a look at the Georgia Bulldog's 2010 Signing Day class. This past season was a bit of a struggle for the Bulldogs, although they did finish 2nd in the SEC East, they finished 8-5 (4-4), and finished the season whooping Texas A&M by 24 in the Independence Bowl. In the off season the Bulldogs HC Mark Richt fired most of the defensive staff so defense is definitely a key for this class. Defensive Line and Secondary were the main needs in the off season for the Bulldogs.

Alec Ogletree

Name/Pos/Grade*

Alec Ogletree/S/90.1
Eval: Great Athlete who makes him game even better by being extremely smart. He takes great angles, wraps up really well, uses the sidelines and attacks the football from the inside-out, and is extremely technique sound. Can play SS or OLB depending on the defense that he plays in. Not the best at man to man coverage but plays the Zone exceptionally well. Can rush the passer very well from either the OLB or SS spot and is tough to block, using his hands to and speed to get by opposing lineman. While he looks the part, intimidating size for a defensive back (6'3 212) he isn't very physical when tackling, he doesn't explode through tackles. If coached up a little more can become an excellent college strong safety.

T.J. Stripling/DE/88.5

Garrison Smith/DT/88.1

Brent Benedict/OT/87.8

Ken Malcome/RB/86.8

Michael Thornton/DT/86.8

Demetree Baker/OLB/84.9

Kolton Houston/OG/84.3

Jalen Fields/DE/83.8

Dexter Morant/DE/81.5

Brandon Burows/DE/80.8

Derek Owens/CB/80.5

Jakar Hamilton/S/80.0 *juco

Marc Deas/S/79.0

Michael Bennett/WR/77.2

Hutson Mason/QB/75.8

Kenarious Gates/OT/69.2

Alexander Ogletree/Ath/68.6

Lonnie Outlaw/WR/53.3

Logan Young's Staircase: Still Drunk.

Jerrell Powe's Scooter: Workaholic. Also Drunk.

Batteman: This is a defensive heavy class, especially along the defensive line, where the Bulldogs are getting a little older, this class fills a couple of holes but mostly is providing depth. I think Alec Ogletree is going to be the next great Georgia Safety. There are a couple of other names to watch for in DT Garrison Smith, RB Ken Malcome, and OLB Demetree Baker. Smith looks like a solid player who could work his way in to the rotation very soon. It is a small class signing only 19 players but I think it is a solid class filling in areas they needed to fill.

Grade Rating
A - Should make an impact IMMEDIATELY, great player expected to eventually be a top pro prospect. The kind of guy you tell your kids/grandkids about.
B - Can make an impact within the first year or two that he steps on campus. Great Pro Potential, and an eventual Star in the SEC.
C - Could develop in to a solid starter with some pro potential.
D - Developmental talent but lacks the physical tools to really be a star in the SEC. Most likely a special teams contributor or role player. Probably stolen from the Sun Belt.
F - Sleeper; Project Player; not enough information to really get an idea about the player. Most likely not going to make an impact until late in college career.
