Friday March 26th Daily Picks.....

Hey there guys,
Well yesterday was a borderline terrible day for me. Mostly because of Hockey. But I'll get to that in a minute. HOW ABOUT THAT TOURNAMENT ACTION LAST NIGHT??? That had to have been some of the best basketball I have ever seen, namely Butler vs. Syracuse and Xavier vs. Pittsburgh. I went 3-1 yesterday as I had tossed and turned with Butler vs. Syracuse for the longest time, at one point thinking that Butler was going to be my surprise team, but eventually I went the Orange. Dumb decision on my part. Syracuse made a game of it but I felt like I just never saw the same Syracuse team that I was used to seeing. They looked uncomfortable for the majority of the game and Butler took advantage of that winning 63-59. Washington gave West Virginia a run, starting off hot with the lead but late in the 2nd half you could tell that Washington's fire was starting to fizzle out and West Virginia ended up with a 69-56 win. The next game I will talk about is the one that started last, but finished before the other game, as Kentucky won handily, but not at the same time. Kentucky won by 17 in a game that really made wonder if the real Kentucky basketball team was even there. Maybe there is something about playing a bunch of non scholarship white guys that just draws these big teams to sleep, and finally, in the best basketball game I have seen all tournament, Xavier and Pittsburgh went at it for an extra 10 minutes in a game that saw clutch shot after clutch shot after clutch shot. From 3's that were WELL beyond the NBA 3 Point Line to fouls that would lead to 3 free throws in a 3 point game, to slam put backs, etc. This game had it all. Congratulations to both teams. Kansas State eventually won 101-96. Now they have 1 day to rest before they have to take on the nation's longest winning streak in Butler. Either way I lost an Elite Eight team in Syracuse meaning I can have 6 at the most, but with Kansas State winning I still have 3 of my Final Four intact. In the NBA I went 2-1 (2-1 ats) as the Heat upset the Bulls 103-74 in a game that I find hard to classify as, well a game. In another upset the Clippers took out the Rockets in Houston as Craig Smith showed up ready to play and left with 25 points and 10 rebounds, then Portland took out Dallas for the 3rd time this season behind Andre Miller's 19 point 10 assist night. One positive for the Mavericks is that I finally saw some good play out of Caron Butler (25 points 9 rebounds). In the NHL I went a horrific 2-9 as there were 7, yes SEVEN, Vegas upsets last night. Good god. Anyway the Hurricanes upset Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals 4-3 behind Manny Legace's 41 saves, Montreal evened the season series with the Panthers 2-2 after their 3 goal win last night, Paul Kariya added on to his career goals last night as the Blues did the unthinkable and won a game at home, Keith Yandle's 3 points (1 goal 2 assists) were not enough for the Coyotes as the Predators won in Nashville, and Evegeni Nobokov's 27 saves were more than enough as the Sharks shut out the Stars 3-0. Today SEC Baseball has some fantastic games as #7 LSU heads to Tennessee, Georgia takes on Mississippi State in the Battle of the Bulldogs, #2 Florida heads to #18 Ole Miss for what should be a great series, #14 South Carolina tries to prove they are worth their ranking as they take on Auburn's potent offense, #20 Alabama and #16 Arkansas go at it in Fayetteville, and Kentucky and #24 Vanderbilt play in Nashville, the NBA has some great games as well as Denver heads to Toronto as both teams, looking to be playoff bound, try to heat back up, Kobe Bryant and the Lakers head to Oklahoma City to take on Kevin Durant and the Thunder, the Heat head up North to take on the surging Bucks, and LeBron James and the Cavaliers take on the Spurs in San Antonio. In the NHL there are only 3 games but I am a little gun shy writing about them after my horrific day yesterday ha ha. Anyway today should still be fun. Hope you guys enjoy.

My Picks.....

SEC Baseball

Kentucky 16-5 (1-2) @ #24 Vanderbilt 18-4 (1-2)
6:00 PM
Starting Pitchers
Kent: Logan Darnell, 3-0 3.09 era
Vandy: Sonny Gray, 3-2 2.73 era

My Pick: Vanderbilt 8-6

#20 Alabama 16-3 (2-1) @ #16 Arkansas 15-5 (1-2)
6:30 PM
Starting Pitchers
Bama: Adam Morgan, 2-0 2.83 era
Ark: Mike Bolsinger, 3-0 3.18 era

The Crimson Tide looked the like the best team in the SEC to open up conference play last weekend but are now on a two game slide after losing to Vanderbilt on Sunday and Auburn during the week. I like for Arkansas' Bats to come alive and for the Hawgs to keep up their solid pitching in Game 1.

My Pick: Arkansas 8-7

#14 South Carolina 17-4 (3-0) @ Auburn 16-5 (3-0)
6:30 PM
Starting Pitchers
SC: Blake Cooper, 3-0 2.90 era
Aub: Cory Luckie, 1-0 5.40 era

My Pick: Auburn 10-7

#2 Florida 17-3 (3-0) @ #18 Ole Miss 17-5 (2-1)
6:30 PM
Starting Pitchers
Flo: Alex Panteliodis, 5-0 1.52 era
Miss: Drew Pomeranz, 3-0 1.23 era

The reason why I like the Rebels to take out the Gators here is because offensively I think the Rebels have a slight edge coming into this game, averaging a full run more per game, while Friday Starter Pomeranz is coming off being named SEC Pitcher of the Week.

My Pick: Ole Miss 6-5

Georgia 8-13 (0-3) @ Mississippi State 12-9 (0-3)
6:30 PM
Starting Pitchers
UGA: Jeff Walters, 0-2 9.58 era
MSU: Kendall Graveman, 1-1 4.98 era

My Pick: Mississippi State 10-5

#7 LSU 17-3 (2-1) @ Tennessee 11-10 (0-3)
7:00 PM
TV: CSS
Starting Pitchers
LSU: Austin Ross, 2-1 4.88 era
