Monday May 24th Daily Picks

Hey there guys,

Didn't mean to take a hiatus for so long but I have now learned some of the ins and outs of Microsoft Excel which means I can now do things A LOT more efficiently, even save a bunch of time doing my daily picks, which means more writing, and hopefully a better product. What is new that I am adding, for one is going to be a small preview on my games of the day and upsets, My Proj ERA for the Pitchers, which will be in (Parentheses) next to their name, and I'll also be showing the O/U as well. It will be next to the (-1.5) in a second set of parentheses. We'll see what you guys think.

5/24 Picks

*Game(s) of the Day*

Boston Red Sox @ Tampa Bay Rays (-1.5)(9.0)
TV: ESPN2
Clay Bucholz (3.34) vs. Wade Davis (3.51)
Preview: This is already going to be a huge series as Tampa Bay is looking to stay at the top of the division while the Red Sox, currently in 4th place in the division, are desperately trying to get back into the thick things. And so far they are on the right track after a two game sweep of the Twins they took a 3 game series from the Phillies in Philadelphia. The Rays have won 8 of their last 10 including two 2 game sweeps of the Indians and Yankees, sandwiched in between two 3 game series wins over the Mariners and then the Astros. I don't see any real dominating performances coming from either starting pitcher, though Bucholz has been fantastic on the road this season. The Red Sox are averaging just under 6 runs a game this month and with a resurgent Adrian Beltre and solid Kevin Youkilis I expect them to put some pressure on Davis, who has been solid, not great, at home this season. I like the style of play that the Rays have on offense, as they attack the bases, and with Carl Crawford and Ben Zobrist constantly on base and a threat to move and Evan Longoria hiting I think that they could easily put up some runs tonight. I think this game will be won or lost by the bullpens, more so lost by the Red Sox bullpen which has a 4.56 era heading into tonight. Expect a great game.

My Pick: Rays 5-3

The Rest

White Sox (-1.5)(8.0) @ Indians
John Danks (2.78) vs. J. Masterson (5.21)
My Pick: Chi Sox 5-3

Pirates @ Reds (-1.5)(9.5)
Brian Burress (4.98) vs. Aaron Harang (5.27)
My Pick: Reds 6-4

Blue Jays (-1.5)(9.0) @ Angels
Brett Cecil (4.88) vs. Jon Saunders (4.30)
My Pick: LAA 5-4 <----- UPSET
Why? I like Saunders here. He has only given up 2 earned runs over his last 22 1/3 innings. Throw in that the Blue Jays are hitting lefties at a .191 pace this season and I don't foresee Toronto's offense doing much damage tonight.
