Wednesday Jan 27th Picks

Hey there guys it's that time again. How about Devan Downey? I said South Carolina gives top teams scares and they did it again. Devan Downey is a one man machine, he single handedly lead close losses on the road to ranked Ole Miss and at Florida and than almost by himself lead a Gamecock upset of #1 Kentucky. Man. What a game. As far as the other sports I went 4-1 in NBA and 4-4, 50%, in NHL. We've got some good SEC games tonight and some great NBA games that I'm definitely going to be paying close attention to. Alright guys let me know what you think.

SEC Men's Basketball

#21/#23 Vanderbilt 15-3 (4-0) @ #14/#14 Tennessee 15-3 (3-1)
6:00pm
TV: ESPNU
Line: Tenn -6.5

Players to Watch: Vandy F A.J. Ogilvy 13.9ppg 6.2rpb 1.8bpg, Tenn F Wayne Chism 11.8ppg 6.4rpg 1.2bpg

Preview: Last night we got to watch a great point guard match up between John Wall of Kentucky and Devan Downey of South Carolina. If you happen to enjoy more post basketball than tonight's game features a great one with Vanderbilts A.J. Ogilvy facing off against Tennessee's Wayne Chism. This is going to be a terrific game and while I think overall that Vanderbilt is the better team I think that Tennessee's home crowd helps propel them to victory.

Tennessee by 5 (77-72)

Georgia 9-8 (1-3) @ Florida 14-5 (3-2)
6:00pm
TV: ESPN 360
Line: Flo -8.5

Players to Watch: Geo F Trey Thompkins 16.9ppg 8.1rpg 1.2bpg, Flo G Erving Walker 12.8ppg 5.1apg 1.6spg, Flo F Alex Tyus 11.9ppg 7.1rpg 0.9bpg

Preview: Within the last few years Georgia has been to SEC basketball what Miss State has been to SEC football. Every now and again they have their moments but for the most part they're bottom feeders. This year however they have played some solid basketball upsetting Georgia Tech and Tennessee and taking Ole Miss and Kentucky down to the wire. Florida is coming off a buzzer beater win over South Carolina last Saturday and is trying to get their name back in the Eastern race. Despite Georgia's solid defense and scrappiness on the boards I'm going to give the advantage to talent here and go with the Gators.

Florida by 12 (74-62)

LSU 9-10 (0-5) @ Alabama 12-7 (2-3)
7:00pm
TV: ESPN 360
Line: Bama -8.5

Players to Watch: LSU G Chris Bass 2.8ppg 3.4apg 0.8spg, LSU F Tasmin Mitchell 17.9ppg 9.5rpg 0.4bpg, LSU F Storm Warren 13.5ppg 8.4rpg 1.6bpg Bama G Mikhail Torrance 15.5ppg 5.2apg 0.8spg, Bama F JaMychal Green 15.2ppg 7.4rpg 2.1bpg

Preview: Earlier this season the Crimson Tide embarrassed the under manned Tigers in Baton Rouge 66-49. This time they're playing in Tuscaloosa. Despite Bama's dominance than I think this game will be closer. That LSU team has only 9 scholarship players but they are beginning to compete, playing close games with Auburn and Ole Miss in their last 2 losses. While I like Bama I think the post play of Storm Warren and Tasmin Mitchell for LSU make this one a bit tougher for the Tide.

Alabama by 11 (69-58)
